Oligodendrocytes are specialized glial cells that form myelin sheaths to wrap around and insulate vertebrate neurons in the Central Nervous System – allowing them to transmit electrical impulses quickly and efficiently. Each oligodendrocyte cell can contact up to 50 axon segments per cell to form such myelin sheaths.

John Riddell and Sue Barnett and colleagues (University of Glasgow, UK) used lentiviral particles from AMSBIO (LVP001) to induce GFP expression in mesenchymal‐like stromal cells from human olfactory mucosa (hOM‐MSCs). This allowed them to be tracked and measured in vivo in a study of spinal cord repair and re-myelination.
