Luciferase

Luciferase is an enzyme that oxidizes its substrate (luciferin or coelenterazine) to produce light, giving researchers a quantitative, low-background readout of gene expression, promoter activity, or cell viability. Luciferase cell lines are stably engineered to express firefly, Renilla, or NanoLuc luciferase under a constitutive or pathway-responsive promoter, so signal intensity directly reflects the biology you care about.

Because the reporter is already stably integrated, luciferase cell lines remove the need for transient transfection and normalization steps, streamlining HTS compound screening, functional genomics, and efficacy studies.
