Luciferase
Luciferase is an enzyme that oxidizes its substrate (luciferin or coelenterazine) to produce light, giving researchers a quantitative, low-background readout of gene expression, promoter activity, or cell viability. Luciferase cell lines are stably engineered to express firefly, Renilla, or NanoLuc luciferase under a constitutive or pathway-responsive promoter, so signal intensity directly reflects the biology you care about.
